Stella DeLuxe Model 570 VBG #1842 | SOLD | This guitar appeared in the 1932 Schmidt catalog as a model 570 Stella, Standard-size, at a cost of $66.00 ... per dozen! This pristine example pretty much follows the catalog description: "Birchwood body. Top edge and sound hole bound with white celluloid and beautifully colored purfling. Fancy strip of decalcomania through center of back. Shaded Satin finish. Poplar neck. White Pearlette Guardplate. White pearlette headpiece and fingerboard with inlaid ebony position dots. Silver frets, bone nut, nickel plated machine heads. Rosewood bone fretted bridge with pearleye endpins. Good quality strings."
This is as fine a condition Stella as one could hope to find; still has an 'as-new' sparkle to it. Recent repairs to get it into tip-top playing shape again include neck reset, new nut/saddle, frets leveled and dressed, and bridge re-glued. Frets are excellent. The original tuners show only a slight bit of oxidation. The end pin is replaced and the heel end may have had a celluloid covering.
The body measures 13 1/4" across at the lower bout. Scale length is 24 13/16". The neck is carved in a 'V' and measures 1 13/16" across at the nut, and string spacing is 2 1/4" across at the saddle. Action is set at 5 & 7/64" and the guitar plays easily.
The tone is what the Stella fuss is all about; brassy but warm, boxy but open, with good sustain. Great for blues finger picking or old time music.
Comes with a hard case.
