Dobro Old Kraftsman M32 c 1938 | SOLD | (vbg1901) Beginning in the mid to late 1930s, Dobros branded Old Kraftsman were produced in Chicago by Regal, for sale via the Spiegel catalog. These steel-bodied guitars became known as 'fiddle edge' Dobros due to the crimping of the edges rather than a welded seam as found on a National resonator. The segmented f-holes and two-rows-of-rectangles cover plate are usually seen on Regal-made Dobros. The cone is the typical Dobro spider arrangement.
The body is steel painted in metallic gold duco. The bound neck is mahogany with a red bean fingerboard. The head stock is veneered in fire stripe celluloid and embossed with 'Old Kraftsman' and a fancy urn-like design. The neck measures 1 3/4" across at the nut, and string spacing is 2 1/8" across at the saddle. Scale length is 25".
The guitar is in overall solid condition, and shows a lot of wear from use and age. There are no dents visible on the body. The original strip tuners were replaced at some time with individual tuners (one button replaced), and they show oxidation, but function well. The frets are excellent, and the neck is straight to allow good playing action. The nut and aluminum cone both appear original to the guitar.
The action is set at 6 & 7/64" and the guitar plays smoothly.
Comes with a 60s era Harmony (black and white) soft case, rough but functional.
