Martin 2-17 1926 | SOLD | (v2104) The 17-series of guitars (2 indicates size, 17 indicates the appointments) was essentially the first to be standardized by Martin, and the first to be braced for steel strings. In 1926 over a thousand 2-17s left the factory. It was a popular model but soon fell out of favor as larger guitars were in more demand.
In this era of production, the 17-series was an all mahogany body, X-braced, with a mahogany neck and Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The body is bound in Brazilian rosewood. The nut is ebony and the frets are true bar frets. The head stock face plate is veneered with Brazilian rosewood. The Martin logo is pressed into the back of the head stock and stamped on the center strip inside the body. The serial number .. 249xx .. is impressed into the mahogany heel block. The plating on the tuners still shines. Everything appears original but for the saddle and perhaps the bridge pins.
We received the guitar with the following repairs: fresh neck reset; re-glued bridge with some roughness around the perimeter and a slight gap but tight (see photo); a few glued back cracks; glued and cleated top crack; repaired damage on upper bass bout (see photo). The original bridge plate is in excellent condition. The guitar is nicely set up, with action set at 6 & 7/64" at the twelfth fret.
This is a great player, and small in stature does not translate to small in sound with this guitar .. strummed or finger picked it sound big and full, with great sustain and a warm mahogany tone. A pleasure to play.
Comes with what appears to be its original Geib soft case in excellent condition.
