Martin 00-17 1955 vbg#1911 | SOLD | The 00-17 had been around as a Martin catalog offering almost twenty-five years when this example was produced. It conforms to the specs of a typical 00-17 with mahogany body and neck, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, bridge and head stock overlay. Top and back are unbound.
The body measures 14 3/8" across at the lower bout. Scale length is 25". The neck measures 1 11/16" across at the nut and 2 3/16" at the saddle. The bridge is Brazilian rosewood, and retains its original profile. The fingerboard in Brazilian rosewood with an original ebony nut. The tuners are also original.
The guitar has had a rough life. A past repair shows a portion of the top at the bass bout side was replaced and resprayed, actually pretty nicely done. We addressed several back cracks, side cracks and top cracks, all glued and cleated. There is a 2" crack below the fingerboard, treble side, that was glued. A number of braces were glued. The pick guard is a bit wrinkled and reglued. The neck was reset, and the frets leveled and dressed.
The action is smooth and the guitar plays well, and produces the warm, woody tone of a mahogany Martin. A real nice finger picking guitar.
Comes with a soft case.
Check out the sound clip (Note: I accidently called it a 1945.)
