Hauver 'Stella' Jumbo 12-String c 2015 | HOLD | We've handled a number of Mike's 'Stella' creations, and this one is the best we've seen. Mike has been building in the 'Stella' style for decades, and knows the old ones inside out, literally, since he's repaired many hundreds of the originals over the years.
This guitar started life as a brand new Leadbelly Jumbo a few years ago, but then custom ordered to these specs by a buyer. It features a jet-black finish with a reproduction Decalcomania decal on top. The top is torrified spruce, and the body mahogany. Top, back, neck, headstock and sound hole are all bound in white. The neck features an adjustable truss rod, and the ebony board sports the 'Nick Lucas' style inlays, seen on top-of-the-line Schmidt instruments back in the day. The bridge is an ebony pyramid, true to the style. The neck is carved in a modern 'C', and is comfortable in the hand. The studded tailpiece a la Leadbelly is not a reproduction but rather an authentic tailpiece from the 1920s.
The jumbo body measures 15 13/16" across at the lower bout and is 4 13/16" deep at the end pin. Scale length is 26 1/2". The nut measures 1 15/16" across at the nut, and 2 1/2" at the saddle.
The guitar presents itself as 'brand new' although it has had one owner. Action is set at 7/64" with plenty of saddle. The guitar plays easily and produces the big, open sound for which these guitars are known. This is a well made instrument, top-shelf fit and finish, easy on the eye with the sound and playability to match.
Comes with a new hard case.
