Gibson LG1 1965 | SOLD | (v2215) This is an LG1 from the mid-sixties. The model was introduced in 1943, and lasted until the late 60's, so this one is near the end of the run.
The back and sides are mahogany. The top is spruce with a cherry-red sunburst, with both top and back bound in white celluloid and featuring a b/w inaid ring around the soundhole. The neck is mahogany and features an adjustable truss rod. The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood. The head stock is painted black with the gold Gibson with the block-style 'G'. The tuners are enclosed Kluson DeLuxe. The original plastic bridge was replaced with a new wood bridge.
The body measures 14 3/16" acreoss the lower bout. Scale length is 24 3/4". The neck measures 1 9/16" across at the nut, and scale length is 2" at the saddle.
The guitar came to us with prior repairs: The original plastic bridge was replaced; the pickguard was replaced; maple cap over the bridge pin holes at the bridge brace/plate. We recently cleaned and lubed the tuners; cleaned the fingerboard and frets. The guitar appears crack free but is heavily checked on the body. There are numerous nicks and dings from use and wear. One tuner shaft is slightly bent.
Overall, a solid guitar with the 60s era narrow neck 'built for speed'. Action is set at a lowish 4/64" treble side, and 6/64" bass side. The guitar plays well and has a nice sound for fingerpicking or flat picking. Great value, considering the prices on these humble LGs just keep going up.
Comes with a hard case.
