Gibson LG1 1964 v2129 | SOLD | (v2129) This is a very clean example of a mid-sixties Gibson LG1. The LG1 was aimed at the more budget-minded buyers since it was less expensive to build, substituting X-bracing for simpler ladder bracing, but built with the same precision and quality materials as the LG2.
Back and sides are mahogany, and bound in white celluloid. The top is spruce with w/b/w sound hole purfling and a pointy faux-tortoise pickguard, finished off with a beautiful Gibson sunburst. The neck is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard and features an adjustable truss rod. The head stock is overpainted in black and sports Gibson in gold block letters. The tuners are the original enclosed Klusons. The bridge is a rosewood replacement, a vast improvement over the original plastic bridge. The serial #232074 is embossed on the back of the head stock.
The body measures 14 5/16" across the lower bout. Scale length is 24 7/8". The neck measures 1 3/4" across at the nut, and string spacing is 2" at the saddle. Action is set at 6/64", and the guitar plays comfortably.
The guitar appears original except for the aforementioned upgrade of the bridge. The finish is all original with the typical checking throughout, and the body is crack free. The guitar has had a prior neck reset, likely done when the new bridge was fashioned.
The LG1 makes a nice little blues box. The sound is full, woody with lots of projection and volume.
Comes with a soft case from the era.
