Carson J. Robeson KG14 c 1934 | HOLD | Carson J. Robeson was an early country recording star and an early Gibson endorser. The Carson J. labeled guitars were sold through the Montgomery Wards catalog, and this one bears a MW label inside the sound hole. The guitar is essentially a Kalamazoo KG14, relabeled.
Back and sides are mahogany; top is spruce and ladder braced; neck is mahogony; top and sound hold bound in white celluloid; Brazilian rosewood fingerboard; Carson J. Robeson in white script on head stock.
The lower bout measures 14 5/8"; scale length is 25" (short scale); the fingerboard measures 1 3/4" across at the nut and 2 3/8" across at the saddle; neck is carved in the typical Gibson 'V' as seen in the 1930s.
Recent repairs include a neck reset; new saddle; back crack glued and cleated; bridge split filled and glued.
The action is set at 6/64" and the guitar plays easily and produces a pleasing, woody tone typical of the KG ladder-braced instruments. Great fingerpicking guitar.
